It is great to learn more about environmental toxins, especially on earth day. But one environment of utmost importance is our actual body. The environment we bathe our organs in, the environment in which our brain resides, the environment that fosters healthy bacteria in our gut and boosts our immune system; the environment on the inside lining of veins at arteries through which our blood flows. For the most part, things good for the body are good for the world environment too so it is a win win.
Omega-3 fatty acids provide a nice environment for the brain and nervous system (as opposed to the low quality omega-6 fatty acids found in low quality soybean oil, and processed or factory farmed meat).
Lots of vegetables and fiber provide a great anti-cancer environment. We surely do not want cancer to feel at home in the inside of our bodies. An anti-cancer body is full of antioxidants. So, does meat belong in either the world environment or in our bodies? Hmm. I would have to say not so much. One of the most effective Earth Day environmental actions would be to skip the meat. And, your bod would thank you too. Just for your information, here are just a few facts about animal products and health that support the notion that a whole foods plant-based diet is a confirmed winner in disease prevention. The following relationships are clear: cow's milk consumption linked to Type 1 diabetes (1992 Finland Study); dairy / animal food consumption related to incidence / severity of MS (Swank, Norway); vegetable to animal protein intake ratio inversely related to hip fracture (osteoperosis) (Univ. California, San Francisco); animal protein intake positively associated with kidney stones (Robertson, Univ. of Glasgow); animal protein consumption linked to cancer (Campbell,The China Study); patients on typical American diet switched to meat free, plant based diet decrease cholesterol from average of 246 to 132 and coronary events in the same group drop from 49 to 1 (Essylstyn, 1985-96). I am sure sugar and processed foods also effect health, but it is quite established that the switch to whole plant foods works, and works well. But, does it earn large corporations any money? Hmmm....
