We finally tried our new solar cooker, a special Christmas gift from my brother-in-law. We set up the metal reflector and the bowl, dumped in a bunch of chick peas after soaking them overnight, and let them sit in the sun. The bowl of chick peas got mighty hot, you really needed a pot holder to touch it. We stirred them a few times and they did take a few hour but cooked well with very little attention. In the meantime, we sauteed onions with many Indian spices (bay leaves, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper, cayenne pepper and oregano) and made a simmering sauce. We tossed in the chick peas and everyone liked them. Later, when I was sure the kids saved me a few, I added them to my salad...
It was a great lunch after an early start to the day watching the space shuttle at 6:21. I am so not a 6:21 a.m. type of person...
